Frequently Asked Questions
Learn more about how MyFredy’s Medical Companion and Post-Op Companion Care services work. Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions about using our trusted-adult support for outpatient procedures across the U.S.
What is a Medical Companion?
A Medical Companion is a trained professional who accompanies you to and from your outpatient medical appointment,
assists during check-in, waits on-site, and ensures you return home safely.
They provide support and supervision — not just transportation.
Is a Medical Companion the same as a medical transport service?
No. Medical Companions are not ambulances or stretcher vans.
They provide door-to-door private transportation, wait during your procedure,
and help ensure a smooth and safe return home — ideal for patients who do not require medical monitoring in transit.
Why would I need a Medical Companion?
Many outpatient procedures require patients to have a responsible adult present for discharge.
If you don’t have a friend or family member available, a Medical Companion fulfills this requirement
so you can complete your procedure without delay.
What types of procedures is MyFredy’s Medical Companion service ideal for?
Our service is ideal for outpatient procedures including:
- Colonoscopy and GI procedures
- Eye surgeries (cataract, LASIK, retina)
- Dental or oral surgeries under sedation
- Plastic and cosmetic surgery consults or pre-op visits
- Orthopedic injections and outpatient procedures
- Pain management procedures
- Any appointment requiring a responsible adult for discharge
Does a Medical Companion come into the facility with me?
Yes. Your Medical Companion accompanies you for check-in and discharge,
helps with personal belongings, and assists with mobility as needed.
Will my Medical Companion wait during my procedure?
Yes. Your companion remains on-site throughout your appointment,
ensuring you have reliable support the moment you are discharged.
How is this different from using Uber or Lyft?
Rideshare drivers do not wait during your appointment and are not accepted as a
trusted adult by most providers.
MyFredy Medical Companions stay with you throughout the process —
from arrival to discharge — ensuring you meet all provider requirements safely and confidently.
Can MyFredy provide a companion for patients who live alone?
Yes. Many of our clients live alone and rely on MyFredy for exactly this need.
Our companions meet the responsible-adult requirement and provide short-term post-procedure support when needed.
Is this service private-pay?
Yes. MyFredy’s Medical Companion service is private-pay and not covered by insurance,
though it is typically eligible for reimbursement through HSA or FSA funds.
Can I book MyFredy for early morning or evening procedures?
Yes. We offer flexible scheduling, including early-morning and evening procedures,
based on local companion availability.
Can family members ride along with MyFredy companions?
Yes. When space allows, we can accommodate a family member or caregiver in the vehicle —
simply let us know when booking.
How far in advance should I book a Medical Companion?
We recommend booking at least 48 hours in advance.
Same-day requests may be accommodated based on availability,
though three weeks’ notice is preferred for surgical or high-demand dates.
Does MyFredy provide same-gender companions upon request?
Yes — if you prefer a male or female companion, we do our best to accommodate this request when made at booking.
Does MyFredy serve patients recovering at hotels or Airbnbs?
Yes — if you are visiting for an elective procedure or medical travel,
we can provide Medical Companion services to and from your hotel or Airbnb.
Does MyFredy serve multiple cities?
Yes — we currently provide Medical Companion services in major cities across the U.S.,
including Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, Charlotte, Seattle, and more.
Is this service available for patients with mobility challenges?
Yes — our companions can assist with basic mobility needs such as entering and exiting vehicles,
managing personal belongings, and walking to and from facility entrances.
However, we do not provide medical lifting or stretcher services.
How much does the Medical Companion service cost?
Pricing depends on your location, appointment duration, and service window.

We offer flexible wait times and adjust billing accordingly.
Will my companion stay with me at home after my appointment?
The Medical Companion service includes safe transportation and assistance home.
If you need extended in-home supervision, we recommend adding our
Post-Op Companion Care service.

even when sedation is not involved.
