Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is a Medical Companion?
A Medical Companion is a trained professional who accompanies you to and from your outpatient appointment, assists during check-in, waits on site, and helps ensure you return home safely. This service provides support and supervision — not just transportation. -
Is a Medical Companion the same as a medical transport service?
No. Medical Companions are not ambulances or stretcher vans. MyFredy provides door-to-door private transportation, waits during your appointment, and supports a smooth and safe return home for patients who do not require medical monitoring in transit. -
Why would I need a Medical Companion?
Many outpatient procedures require a responsible adult for discharge. If you don’t have a friend or family member available, a Medical Companion can fulfill this requirement so you can complete your procedure without delay. -
What types of procedures is MyFredy’s Medical Companion service ideal for?
Our service is ideal for outpatient procedures including:- Colonoscopy and GI procedures
- Eye surgeries (cataract, LASIK, retina)
- Dental or oral surgeries under sedation
- Plastic and cosmetic surgery consults or pre-op visits
- Orthopedic injections and outpatient procedures
- Pain management procedures
- Any appointment requiring a responsible adult for discharge
-
Does a Medical Companion come into the facility with me?
Yes. Your companion accompanies you for check-in and discharge, helps with personal belongings, and can assist with basic mobility needs as appropriate. -
Will my Medical Companion wait during my procedure?
Yes. Your companion remains on site throughout your appointment so you have reliable support immediately upon discharge. -
How is this different from using Uber or Lyft?
Rideshare drivers do not wait during your appointment and are not accepted as a trusted adult by most providers. MyFredy companions stay with you through the process — from arrival to discharge — helping you meet provider requirements safely and confidently. -
Can MyFredy provide a companion for patients who live alone?
Yes. Many clients live alone and rely on MyFredy for this need. Our companions meet the responsible adult requirement and can provide short-term post-procedure support when requested. -
Is this service private-pay?
Yes. MyFredy’s Medical Companion service is private-pay and not covered by insurance. Many clients use HSA or FSA funds when eligible. Coverage depends on your plan and administrator. -
Can I book MyFredy for early morning or evening procedures?
Yes. We offer flexible scheduling, including early morning and evening appointments, based on local availability. -
Can family members ride along with MyFredy companions?
Yes. When space allows, we can accommodate a family member or caregiver in the vehicle. Please mention this at the time of booking. -
How far in advance should I book a Medical Companion?
We recommend booking at least 48 hours in advance. Same-day requests may be accommodated based on availability. For surgical or high-demand dates, earlier notice is recommended. -
Does MyFredy provide same-gender companions upon request?
Yes. If you prefer a male or female companion, we will do our best to accommodate the request when it is made at booking. -
Does MyFredy serve patients recovering at hotels or Airbnbs?
Yes. If you are traveling for an elective procedure or medical travel, we can provide service to and from your hotel or Airbnb when local coverage is available. -

How much does the Medical Companion service cost?

Will my companion stay with me at home after my appointment?
Medical Companion service includes safe transportation and assistance home. If you need extended in-home supervision, we recommend adding Post-Op Companion Care (Aftercare) based on availability. -
